Angesichts des besseren Verhältnisses sind das Fortschritte, auch wenn die Schwere der eigentlichen Verletzung etwas größer war.

Congratulations. Such a short and evidently elegantly concise entry, and yet I had to have recourse to the dictionary on every second word and still haven't a terribly clear idea of what you're saying. To me that's authentically German!

Thanks Katy! My German-writing strategy involves fiddling with the text until the point at which I don't quite understand it myself any more. Only then is it finished. I cannot guarantee it makes sense, but at least it encodes ideas, which is often more important. In this case, should my concerned mother somehow stumble across the blog, I would prefer she did not find out that I'm still unable to peel potatoes without gruesomely peeling a digit or two along the way. And yet peeling fewer digits still feels like a triumph I wanted to declare somewhere.

This blog is grounded on the principle that, by including cartoons, it is absolved of any need to justify its existence by having something of particular value to say. While all drawings are based upon real, observed scenes, incidental details (e.g. clothing, faces, bodily proportions, genders) may have been amended (because of limitations in memory and artistic competence) and facial expressions changed (in an attempt to more fully depict the soul of the protagonists, unless it was the facial expression that amused me in the first place, in which case it is reproduced as accurately as possible).

In addition to language practice, a secondary function of the blog is to serve as a permanent record of original drawings (of variable relevance and quality), which will mostly have been strewn across the cafes and restaurants of Heidelberg and thereby have saved me the trouble of eventually losing and / or destroying them (by passing this role on to another via a form of ostensibly generous littering).
